Health promotion is to change the behavior and mindset of the people towards disease prevention. People need knowledge, tools, and incentives for such behavioral change.
The health promotion model must focus to educate and explain all those factors and tools that can be helpful in disease prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and palliative care. Basically, the health promotion model is the answer to who, what, and how.
Who?
The answer to who is a strong, comprehensive but concise media campaign message addresses society, sector/system, community, individual, and family. Therefore, the acceptance of messages should be the main concern in media campaigns.
People living in a country in an organized way is called a society. They make decisions to do things, to change behavior and mindset.
A sector or system is a group of people having a common interest within a society helping stabilize society's working. An example is the economic system of a country.
Community is a segment of society. People living in a particular area or in the same place have a common interest is called community. An example of a community is a religious group like Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, Christianity, etc.
An individual is a single person compared to a group.
Family
A family is a group of people living together, having relations such as father, mother, and children.
What?
What factors should be considered for developing messages of media campaigns to who? The acceptance of messages to society, sector/system, community, individual, and family depends upon the following factors.
- Income and Social Status
- Social Support Network
- Education
- Working Condition
- Physical Environments
- Biology and Genetics
- Personal Health, Practices, and Capping Skills
- Healthy Child Development
- Health Services
When messages have been developed by considering the above factors then the question is delivery of these messages in such a way that could be helpful to society, sector/system, community, individual, and family. The delivery of messages would be more effective if media campaigns were based on the following factors supported by the Government.
- Strengthen community actions
- Build health public policy
- Create a supportive environment
- Develop personal skills
- Reorient health services
